DID YOU KNOW???
That in the fall on Oct. 5th it is the day we celebrate “National Betty Day”, REALLY!!!
A Delicious Apple Brown Betty/Apple Crisp Recipe
4-6 large apples peeled & cored, then thinly sliced (I like macs and honeycrisp but they all taste great)
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon spice
1/2 cup cold butter
A pinch of salt
-mix 1/2 cup sugar with a teaspoon of cinnamon
-some butter to dab over apples tossed in the cinnamon sugar mix.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Butter and lightly flour baking dish
Then..Toss apples with the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon mix then place apples in 9x9 baking dish .
NEXT: In medium sized bowl, combine flour, sugar, and cinnamon.
Add your cold butter and use a pastry blender or fingers or 2 forks to work the butter into the dry ingredients, until they form small pieces...do not cream the mixture together.
The mixture should be crumbly.
Spread all of the topping gently over the apples evenly OR...make layers when place apples in baking dish, alternating apples with topping mix BUT if you choose to do this you will need to make a double batch of the crumb topping(My favorite way ! ).
You can choose to cover the baking dish with a lid or aluminum foil and then bake it in a preheated oven for about 40 minutes or until apples reach the desired tenderness you like. ( Covering it helps it bake)
You will then remove the baking dish cover and continue cooking it until the topping is crisp and lightly browned. Which will be just about 10-15 minutes more.
I serve mine warm with lots of whip cream & or vanilla ice cream...Some people ever like pouring heavy cream or milk over it.......You may also like to drizzle some thick caramel topping over it also!!!

****Before baking you may also add about 1/2 cup apple cider over the apples in the baking dish and THEN cover with the topping!
****You may also experiment and put your own little ingredients twist on this recipe!!!
I like adding some vanilla and even a sprinkle of cloves sometimes as well as other spices
